Ten years, Hundred years, One day, That light
Ten years ago (2005-6-16),
I saw 4 numbers at the bus stop,
and made a phone call to the sequence of numbers.
Familiar Numbers, Unknown Telephone, 2005-5-16 (13:15-18), telephone recording
Telephone conversation between Pak Sheung Chuen and “Mr. Bus”:
“phys lo…”(inaudible)
“Hello! Hello!”
“Yes, Hi, Good morning!”
“Is this 9191-9296?”
“Yes! Yes!”
“I saw your number on a bus-stop… on a bus-stop near Tseng Lan Shue.”
“Tseng Lan Shue? May I please know what is this all about?”
“Ha! Nothing, I just thought it was interesting how I saw a number (on the bus-stop), so I tried to call and see if anyone would pick up.”
“Ha! No way! Where was it (the number) posted?”
“On a bus-stop called Denon… Denon Terrace, near Teseng Lan Shue (Sai Kung).”
“So how was it? Was it written on the bus-stop? Or was is spray painted on? Or something else?”
“It was just spray painted on the bus-stop, with eight numbers. I was curious about the phone number, so I tried and saw if anyone would pick up. Ha, someone actually did…”
“Haha! That is a bit strange.”“Well, my surname is Pak…”
“Yes…(in doubt) Hi… Was (this number) used as an advertisement?”
“It was not an advertisement, it was just written on the bus-stop: 9191-9296.”
“Is it one of those newer bus-stops?”
“Yes! Yes!”
“The one with plastic plate and stainless steel?”
“That’s right!”
“That’s very strange, I don’t understand it, but thanks a lot.”
“I’m sorry about this, but thanks for your time.”
“Thank you, good bye!”
“Good bye!”
This artwork was published on 19.06.2005 Ming Pao (Hong Kong daily newspaper).
22.08.2005, When I went to Sai Kung, I found the route signs “91 91M 92 96R” disappear. I guess they are being stolen.
Meeting with Mr. Bus After Ten Years, 2005-2015, Newspaper, books, photos and documents, etc., installation view at “Pak Sheung Chuen: That Light”, Mirrored Gardens, 2016
I published the bus stop work at a newspaper.
Ten years later I asked that person to meet up at the bus stop.
I let him listen to the phone recording from that year,
and had an exhaustive interview with him.
The Moment of Encounter with Mr. Bus, 2015-12-12 (11:10:39), text, video, installation view at “Pak Sheung Chuen: That Light”, Mirrored Gardens, 2016
At the time of appointment Mr. Bus didn’t show up.
As it turned out, he had actually walked past me twice,
only that I didn’t know it was him,
and he didn’t know it was me.

The Horizon Placed at Home, 2004-9-8, Seawater (Victoria Harbor), map
I draw a horizontal line on the map of Victorial Harbor.
The horizontal line went through five coasts.
I fill the bottle up to the same level with the sea water.
The sea water is of the same height.
I put the five bottles of sea water at home,
a horizon emerged.
Flowing Boundary: The Western Border (113°52’E) (2016), map component
Description of the map:
In 1898, Qing China and the United Kingdoms signed the Convention for the Extension of Hong Kong Territory, which designated the Hong Kong border and leased the area now known as the New Territories to the United Kingdoms for a period of 99 years. This territory continues to be put in use as the boundary between Mainland China and Hong Kong. This map is annexed to the Convention, whose original is housed in the National Archives of the UK.
I followed the western border on the map:
113°52’E,
collected 330 liters of seawater from north to south
and erected a monument to accommodate it.
The seawater ran down from 3 meters high
into a straight line
which is parallel to the perpendicular border on the map.
Flowing Boundary: The Western Border (113°52’E) (2016), seawater and boundary monument stone

I stayed to the spot 4km away from the western border of Hong Kong,
pointed the camera towards the west and shot a video.
The horizon in the frame
overlaps exactly with the borderline shown on the map.
